Summer 2023
The proposed works to the Estate roads include re-routing of the stream. Consideration is also
underway to the re-establishment of a pond on the Horseshoe. The UEHA Committee is aware that such
works may require consultation with property owners in the wider area as well as Estate residents and is
committed to complying with all relevant procedures.

News and UEHA Committee meeting summary
AGM 2020 will now be held on Wednesday 14th October. Unfortunately due to the covid situation a physical meeting will not be possible. The estate solicitors have advised that an AGM can be held with no one present.
Towards the end of September, reports from last year will be circulated. Residents can then submit ant questions and they will receive a written response from the committee.
We are hoping to appoint new committee members and welcome new nominations which should be received by Sept 25th.
Any motions for the AGM should also be received by the 25th.

Road survey (March 2017)
As part of a survey into the condition of estate roads, Structural Soils will be carrying out a survey with their crew on the 22nd and 23rd of March. Disruption will be kept to a minimum with cones/barriers placed around the coring rig at each location separately. It is envisaged that approximately 5 to 6 cores will be completed each day – cores will be reinstated using cold lay asphalt. Indicative locations shall be set out to ensuring access is maintained to all properties, and Structural Soils will carry out a Ground Penetrating Radar scan prior to coring to ensure any utilities are avoided.
Work to the path along spinney (January 2017)
Matt Bottley and his team are working in and around the spinney. They are implementing recommendations from a Wildlife Trust report into the area, as well as extending the pedestrian walkway along the stream so it joins with the brick path on Orchards Way.

SFK Consulting will be surveying the estate roads on the 12th and 13th of January. They will be in a high vision jacket. We don't anticipate disruption to normal use of the roads, but please be mindful of their presence.

- concern was raised about the amount of leaves dropped by the large trees on the estate. The gardners will be asked to collect and remove these leaves from the Estate.

- The annual tree survey has been scheduled for mid November.

- there were extended discussions on the best way forward for repairing the road. It was agreed that a consulting firm would be tasked with surveying the road and providing their advice on the work required.

- Works to properties: there was some discussion about proposed work on properties on the Estate. Some time was spent discussing appropriate material for replacement gutters on the Estate, and the committee decided to seek further guidance on this.
- Several properties had applied for permission to carry out work on trees in their back gardens. The grounds manger was asked to visit and report back to the committee.
- The Spinney: the committee agreed to carry out the changes recommended by the Woodland Trust, to clear some of the invasive shrubs that had been planted there. The large amount of leaves in the spinney was also discussed.
June 2016
- Some potholes On the estate have been repaired.
- The committee examined several samples of conservation curbing for possible use on the Estate.
May 2016
- Works to properties: there was some discussion about the proposed work on properties on the Estate, including installation of roof lights and rear extension.
- Extension of double yellow lines on Highfield Lane and Brookvale Road. The committee will write to Southampton City Council regarding the proposal.
April 2016
- The new path in The Spinney – it was agreed that this would remain at wood bark, as any brick or concrete path would get slippery as the path is located under the trees.
- Edging: the committee are looking in replacing the wooden edging on the Estate.
- Frying Pan: there was some discussion regarding options to prevent the Frying Pan being damaged by vehicles, and the UEHA committee are to consider possible options for this part of the road.
March 2016
- A number of properties are proposing to undertake some changes, including re-landscaping of front and rear gardens.
- Liaison between the UEHA and Southampton City Council Conservation Officer, and assistance from the Council in ensuring that the Guidelines detailed in the Green Book are adhered to by houseowners.
- A number of works to trees has been completed including work associated with the Annual Tree Survey and pruning the apple trees.
Update on work to Spinney
Work is progressing well. We have uncovered the original kerbing , a working drain, and a GPO box under the mound of earth that had spilled onto the road over the years. Please stop by the area and take a look; Matt Bottley and his team are very friendly and happy to chat to you if you make them a cup of tea!
February 2016
- The Cedars Tree – the cedar tree near the post box is being checked for safety following the high winds in February.
- Maintenance Charges for 2017/18 – there was a discussion about the proposed maintenance charge, and it was agreed that the
maintenance charge would be increased by about 1% to £465.
- Footpath Closure – the footpath would be closed at the end of February to ensure that the footpath through the Estate remains a
permissive footpath
January 2016
- A new screen is to be installed on the culvert which runs under the road by the Horseshoe Green.
- Potholes are to be repaired on an ad–hoc basis.
- The condition of The Cut, adjacent to the Scout Hut was discussed, and the most appropriate way to ensure that this footpath is safe.
November 2015
- The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust have visited the Estate and are sending a report about the management of the Horseshoe Green and The Spinney.
- Work to progress work alongside the road adjacent to the stream is due to commence, initially by sending the work out to tender.
September 2015
- There was some discussion about the condition of the bee hive on top of the Horseshoe Garages, which the UEHA will arrange to have repaired.
July 2015
- There was some discussion about some changes that a couple of properties are proposing to undertake, changes included replacement of windows on a like for like basis, and installation of roof lights at the rear of a property.
- The UEHA committee are continuing to plan to undertake some work to the road alongside the stream, and this is ongoing, currently a survey is being undertaken as part of this project.
- It was also agreed that a BBQ would be held in September.
May 2015
- There was discussion about the AGM, which was very poorly attended. A number of items were raised at the AGM, which the UEHA committee will be considering in the next few months.
- There was some discussion about the footpath at the junction of Orchards Way and Uplands Way. It was agreed that the committee are to come up with some proposals. Some vegetation is to be removed from alongside The Spinney on Orchards Way to improve the sightlines.
- There was some discussion about the entrances to the Estate at Uplands Way and Orchards Way. The UEHA committee are going to contact Southampton City Council about possible improvements.
- There was a discussion about the willow tree on the Horseshoe Green as a large fungus is growing from the tree. The UEHA are going to arrange for the tree to be checked by the tree surgeon.
